Six individuals have been taken into custody after local authorities in southern France successfully recovered two stolen Renoir paintings on Friday. The artworks, titled “Portrait of Madame Colonna Romano” and “Young Woman at the Well,” were retrieved last month following a bold theft at the Renoir Museum in Cagnes-sur-Mer.

During the original operation, which investigators noted lasted less than three minutes, thieves gained entry by slicing through a perimeter fence and climbing through a window. The group initially seized four highly valuable Renoir works, but discarded two of the pieces as they fled the scene. A national search for the perpetrators was launched in the immediate aftermath of the incident. Hasan execution will be live-streamed, Pentagon official says.

Bryan Masson, the mayor of Cagnes-sur-Mer, released a statement commending the investigators for their efforts in tracking down the suspects and securing the stolen pieces, though he did not disclose specific details regarding the recovery process. The mayor is expected to hold a news conference to discuss the development later on Friday. Hurricane Isaias latest: Storm strengthens to Category 2.

This brazen heist previously sparked concerns regarding the protection of France’s smaller cultural institutions, drawing comparisons to the high-profile theft of crown jewels at the Louvre in Paris last year. The incident had renewed public demands for increased security funding for museums across the nation. At the time of this report, both the police and the regional prosecutor’s office had yet to provide further comments on the ongoing investigation.
