Singer-songwriter Raye has criticized ticket touts for using artificial intelligence bots to overwhelm the registration process for her upcoming performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall. The artist revealed that the system saw 1.8 million sign-ups for the 5,000-seat show scheduled for 23 October, claiming the surge was caused by hundreds of thousands of fake registrations.

To protect fans from scalpers, Raye opted against a standard pre-sale, instead manually reviewing the massive list to shortlist individuals believed to be genuine supporters. Reflecting on the experience, Raye noted that it has opened her eyes to the current state of event ticketing and prompted her team to reconsider their future strategies. The concert itself will highlight tracks from her recent chart-topping concept album, This Music May Contain Hope, which explores themes of heartbreak and self-doubt through a fusion of jazz, orchestral, and soul influences. The struggle against ticket scalping continues to be a major industry issue. Last November, high-profile artists including Dua Lipa, Sam Fender, and Coldplay signed an open letter urging government intervention to stop the resale of tickets above their original face value. While a draft Ticket Tout Bill was introduced in May, consumer groups have expressed concern over the pace of progress, as the legislation requires further consultation and scrutiny before becoming law.

A spokesperson for the Royal Albert Hall emphasized that they invest heavily in defending their systems from automated attacks, but stated that current laws must evolve to match the sophistication of the ticketing black market. They echoed the sentiment that while venues are doing their utmost to protect fans, the problem cannot be solved by the music industry alone.

In response to the situation, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport confirmed it remains committed to eliminating ticket touting entirely. Government officials and venue representatives both agree that urgent legislative updates are necessary to curb the influence of advanced technology used by ticket scalpers.
