Jamie Miller has secured the top spot on the UK singles chart with his viral sensation, Babydoll, marking the first time a Welsh artist has achieved this feat in 15 years. The 29-year-old singer from Pontprennau, Cardiff, narrowly surpassed Tate McRae’s Housewife to claim the position on Friday, as confirmed by the Official Charts Company.

This achievement establishes Miller as the first Welsh artist to lead the chart since 2011, when Sian Evans featured on the DJ Fresh track, Louder. Furthermore, Miller holds the distinction of being the first solo male Welsh artist to reach number one in 41 years, following the success of Shakin’ Stevens’ 1985 holiday hit, Merry Christmas Everyone.

Expressing his gratitude, Miller told the Official Charts: “I don’t even know what to say other than thank you so much for getting me Number 1, this is the biggest thing that’s ever happened to me in my life, I love you guys.”

The success of Babydoll, released on 7 August, follows a challenging period for the artist, who admitted he contemplated quitting his music career at the beginning of 2026. The song gained significant momentum after actress Jennifer Love Hewitt shared videos featuring the track, which subsequently sparked a popular TikTok dance trend and earned Miller his first appearance on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Beyond his solo success, Miller collaborated on a version of the track with Off Campus actor Antonio Cipriano following a lighthearted social media exchange. Cipriano praised Miller as one of the best vocalists he has ever encountered, noting he had been a fan of the singer’s voice for several years.

Reflecting on his career path, Miller shared that his passion for music started by chance after he became hooked on singing during a primary school audition.

He later rose to prominence nearly a decade ago after finishing third on the sixth season of The Voice UK. Miller, whose father works as an Uber driver in Cardiff, stated he is proud of his recent work and is eager to perform his new album on tour, particularly in Wales. According to miller, who previously, Wales his dad is an Uber driver in Cardiff, launched his career nearly a decade ago as a 19-year-old, after coming third on the sixth season of The Voice UK.

The remainder of the week’s top five singles featured Olivia Rodrigo’s remix of Expectations with Chappell Roan, while Ashe’s track Stop The Wedding occupied the number four position.

In the albums chart, Irish band Fontaines DC secured their second number one record with their latest release, Dopamine Chamber. The album recorded the third-largest opening week of 2026 and represents the fastest-selling Irish studio project since Snow Patrol’s 2011 album, Fallen Empires.
