A Florida woman has been formally indicted by a grand jury on 14 felony charges following an incident where she allegedly fired a rifle at the residence of Rihanna and A$AP Rocky. The indictment against 36-year-old Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, an Orlando resident, was unsealed on Wednesday. Rihanna’s mother and several staffers also were in the home.

Prosecutors allege that on March 8, Ortiz drove a Tesla from Florida to the couple’s Beverly Hills-area property. Once there, she purportedly pointed an AR-15 style rifle from her vehicle and discharged at least 20 rounds toward the home and a neighboring property. During the shooting, bullets struck an Airstream trailer occupied by the celebrity couple, as well as a second-floor nursery where their three children were being cared for by a nanny.

Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott stated outside the courtroom, “This is a person who wanted to kill Rihanna. Everyone else was collateral damage.” Despite the severity of the allegations, no injuries were reported among the family members or staff present during the incident. Following her arrest on March 8, investigators stated that Ortiz claimed, “I wasn’t attempting murder.” She has since been held on a $2.6 million bond. During her court appearance, she appeared in jail attire and spoke only to her legal counsel, who entered a plea of not guilty on her behalf. Former ‘American Idol’ contestant found guilty of murdering wife.

The legal proceedings against Ortiz were recently accelerated following a judge’s ruling that she is mentally competent to stand trial. This decision followed months of psychiatric evaluations, which had previously caused the case to stall. Because the evaluation reports remain sealed, specific details regarding her mental health have not been disclosed to the public. White House orders over $800M in funds rescinded.

The new grand jury indictment supersedes previous charges and includes 10 counts of assault with an assault weapon, alongside three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper. By utilizing secret grand jury proceedings, prosecutors are able to bypass the traditional California preliminary hearing process.

Authorities have not established a motive for the shooting, nor have they identified any personal connection between Ortiz, who is a licensed speech pathologist without a prior criminal record, and the victims. If convicted on all counts, Ortiz could face a maximum sentence of life in prison.
